Good Game!
I spent maybe an hour of that time putting together an unnecessarily exact map once I realized I really needed to. (Honestly might have been faster if I'd just made a program that let me easily shuffle screens around.) I also found the map room pretty late, and it seems I could've found it much earlier, so the misalignments messed me up a little.

Also, Why Is This
nice job! i thought it would be pretty hard for one person to find everything & i guess it was if you had to make your own map....
btw if you know where all the stuff is the game takes like 10-15 minutes to beat lol. i was very curious how long a blind playthrough would be so thanx 4 playing :honeydew:
i wonder if you couldve done it without making your own map if you found the map room earlier..... i think the map in the version you played isnt very helpful other than revealing how the looping works. i made a better version that is shifted a bit & has color-coded rooms:

also i fixed that gradient thing already (i noticed it when i generated a map for myself) but i havent uploaded the new version yet.....
i might post the full-size map i generated later once more people have played..... its really cute but it shows all the heart locations and fake walls
Yeah, that map is better. Figuring out what was supposed to be the "top row" took a while, despite me happening to have it almost right already. But even on the old one, seeing the room connections definitely helped to find the last hearts - moreso than the loop connections did, since all those did for me was "oh, that's why it seems misaligned sometimes, okay."

Wow, that was a lot more than I expected. The "debug room"-looking starting screen had me fooled for a bit, but the invisible walls piqued my curiosity. I didn't know I'd be playing this for so long!
My only suggestion would be to maybe make floor-tunnels easier to find? like, you have to be absolutely PARKED on those to actually fall through them.
I also made this map:

with more accurate labels. This helped a lot, and it was really fun charting this out and finding a reference point. I started with the endless rainbow pit, since I could easily see that looping on the left side of the map. Then I looked for where the entrances lined up and went from there.
All in all, wonderful experience.
Also, fuck the heart area.
thanks for playing & for the nice comments :watermelon: your map is very cute.....
seems so far like the game takes around [sp]2 hours[/sp] to complete, if anyone hasnt played yet & is wondering.....
the one-block-wide floor tunnels could maybe be made easier to fall into.... i like though that its hard to discover them by accident since you normally run right over them..... it might be hard to balance it so theyre easier to find when actively searching but still hard to find accidentally
hmm maybe i should keep the current monochrome version of the map instead of the color-coded version i made? it seems like part of the fun is figuring out how the map actually corresponds to the different locations, and the color makes that much more straightforward
Keeping the map basic like that was super fun. I was never sure if something would transition into a new area or not, which was cool as heck.
I actually got to thinking how one would translate that into a game mechanic, so you wouldn't need to keep paint.net open in another window, but at the same time not spoiling the size or layout of the map. Maybe not for this game but for a similar project.

heard you like maps
those are pretty good!!
bloop.wav feels kinda messy and repetitive so i can see why you're iffy on it
You think you'll make it so swing.wav and swing-alt.wav play in tandem? so like, when you go from upper to lower town it'll change the volumes of the songs so it's a seamless transition
darkness.wav is good for the red castle. the dungeon is spooky with scary skulls so you could just have a creepy droning track for that
also, suggest: (https://i.imgur.com/qHPLfIH.png)
maybe have no music play in the screens in this red square? that initial period between breaking out of the first room and finding the heart counter was really neat and felt like i was cheating and going somewhere i shouldn't, especially since the first room looks like a dev room. having music in that little segment might dampen that feeling a little bit
added the creds.... heres what they look like if you dont wanna beat it to see em (ending spoilers)

i think i will officially release this in a few hours..... for all the sparkly rainbow kittys in the world and beyond.....
btw heres the cute full game map i generated (spoilers for absolutely everything)
it includes the level design change i made like 15 minutes ago (added an extra column of blocks to make it easier to escape the starting area.... i wanted it to be tricky but i didnt want people to give up there and someone did..... i think the long horizontal jump was a lil too precise)
im really proud of this sparkly kittey game.....
i just had a cool&cute idea for a secondary goal other than beating the game......

once i test it a bit more thoroughly ill probably upload a new version. thanx giik for making the thing that shows which hearts go in which locations its very helpful for this
