Title: Just got this exciting PM.
Post by: GanonsSpirit on May 07, 2016, 09:32:39 PM
"Good news!
Imagine you are reading an amazing story on your computer, and suddenly your boss is calling you to start your job. You are already outdoors.  You need to continue reading on your phone. Or maybe you have Smart TV and need to send some link to TV?
How to do it?
Browsers and other programs cannot help you. Of course, you can send e-mail or SMS to yourself but there is much easier way!
You should just go to this website http://bufer.me  and full the blank with link to article. Then press the button “Save the text” and get your code.
It is simple code consisting only 3 characters that will be easy enough to remember.
And, the last thing you need to do – just go to this website from the other device, insert 3 characters of code and press “Get the text”.
Congrats! You’re done.
Very fast, easy and WITHOUT ADVERTISING!"

Wow! Thanks, BufsoX!

The plugin ecosystem and management is so bad on SMF.  There's no a proper reCaptcha plugin that doesn't conflict with what we already have.  So we have 2 or 3 subpar captchas that work most of the time but not always.

Could always disable registration, but that's probably a bad idea.

Grab your PHP textbook and write your own.

Hah, I never got a textbook.  Started learning PHP because I abandoned the other web design class, which focused on "building websites with tables".  Was dreadful.

Nothing like a good old fashioned course to teach you really out of touch stuffs

And I think everyone is aware of my thoughts on the choice of forum software

The webs have advanced plenty since this was made, don't get why SMF is still developed yet still in the web development stone age tho

The only real benefit I see is it runs on cheap hardware with few requirements (standard LAMP stack).  Though nowadays Docker means even complex setups are pretty easy to deploy.  I assume cheaper webhosts will start offering Docker support soon but right now it's more useful on VPS and dedis.
