Let's see, there's Steam, GOG Galaxy, Origin, UPlay, Battle.net Client...
Missing any?
-
i havent even in-stalled "stame" on my new laptop yet.....
-
Few obscure ones. The mostly-deprecated GMG "Capsule/Playfire" software. The BigFishGames launcher. Epic Games has one now too.
I generally use Steam+GOG Galaxy, and rarely Origin+Uplay.
-
the first three. i think i have a uplay account as well but i don't have the software installed
-
i think the # of game portals in the world is a little ridiculous.....
-
Inconvenient, perhaps. But I prefer that to a Valve monopoly.
-
yeah, i mean idk about origin/uplay, but gog certainly isn't unwelcome with all its drm-free-ness and such
-
interesting!!! some people have suggested to me that i drop my HUBOLAUNCHER in favor of the itch.io application.... but it sounds like none of you gamers use that thing!!!!! (i dont either, but i have downloaded games from the itch.io web site)
-
i use steam i guess i have origin too but it sucks balls
-
i have stream installed but i dont rly use it...... i didnt know gog had a thing i thought u just downloaded ur DRM-Free Game's from the gog web site
-
You can download them directly or use their Galaxy client. It just offers some optional backend features like friends lists, save file syncing, achievements, etc.

Yeah, actually. I didn't know he was going to be publishing the email when I wrote it, though. So what I said really doesn't make much sense in context. I had just asked him to nofollow his links to some iffy sellers and gave a brief explanation as to why. He decided to publish it for "equal balance", ironically the one thing I'd suggested against.
Anyway, that article was from a year and a half ago. Since then attitudes have shifted and people have finally caught on that G2A and similar sites are not great for the industry. So, job done?

"We spoke to a source who wishes to remain anonymous, so let's just call him SquareWheel of the /r/GameDeals subreddit."
gj staying anonymous
-
"Can we use your real name?"
"Eh, can I see what you're writing first?"
"Nope"
"Nope"
-
wow SquareWheel is famous!! congradutations :watermelon:
-
Weird. That's usually a [you] tag.
-
it is, though?
-
forgot to say, i also have portal installed if that's at all relevant
-
I replayed Portal a couple weeks ago. Still fun.
-
I bought Doom 1-3 for 50 cents. Good deal?
-
Pretty sure they'll just sit in my library, but...
-
doom1 is the best fps ive ever played, never got around to finishing it tho or playing the later doom's
-
I set up my Vive. The nausea is real.
Though I was playing a game where my viewpoint change was mapped directly with how I moved my head, so I don't know what I'm getting sick over.
-
Generally from your visual and vestibular systems sending conflicting information. I've heard people argue over the reality of "getting your VR legs" (as in, sea legs), but the concept makes sense.
Either way, don't power through it. Otherwise you'll come to associate VR with nausea and never get used to it. Take a break at even the slightest discomfort.
-
'VR legs' is a terrible expression and i will not permit it on these forums
-
i really dont care about vr.....

i really dont care about vr.....
ditto. plus it Costs A Lot
-
I bet you two slay all of the people-of-your-desired-sexual-gender with your impersonal skills of hearing about a topic someone is interested in and immediately letting them know that you don't care about that topic at all.
Generally from your visual and vestibular systems sending conflicting information.
What is the information and how is it conflicting?
I understand how it works in the form of sitting on my ass while playing Mirror's Edge, because my vestibular system is stationary and my visual system is seeing myself as moving and jumping quickly. But I was playing a game where I was walking and turning around and the virtual camera was moving and turning at the same rate.
-
i dont intend to be impersonal or anything, my ellipses were suggesting that im saying it very softly...... im interested in seeing why people are interested in it, but its definitely not something i would go out and purchase. someone told me that they had to drill things into their walls to install their vr system which i thought was funny though
-
Even soft movement can be tough for people. Especially jumping or slopes/stairs. Try some games that use teleport locomotion, that's supposed to be a lot more comfortable (if a bit less immersive).
-
I used these things (https://i5.walmartimages.com/asr/5409f857-12e1-48ac-946c-0f96f51a07fc_1.98ed27e90d2fe4b4e9fa345caf3a2543.jpeg). Enough of them to hold up 8 lbs (~3.6 kg) even though the lightbox + power cord are probably only 1 lb (~0.5 kg) at most.
There does appear to be some sort of motor inside of them though because they vibrate while they're plugged in. I hope that doesn't fuck up the adhesives.
-
it's more that i don't care about it at the moment while the price is still generally high and headaches etc. are still an issue than that i don't care overall. it's hard to get excited over something that's still not very accessible
-
plus i don't really want to splash out hundreds of £££ on something that may or may not be supported in a few years due to format wars or whatever
-
I'm super excited for VR but it's extremely cost prohibitive in Canada.
-
Come down to northern California and you guys can all use mine. 8)
-
im a gamer not a sharer!!!!!!
-
Just think of it as gaming the system.
-
I played another game with the teleport movement. Did it for an hour and didn't get nauseous so that's cool.
I did have a period of about 10 minutes afterwards where focusing on objects in the real world felt weird, as well as half-expecting my actual hands to pass through solid objects.

YouTubers who upload videos about video games for a living are up in arms about Bethesda announcing they won't send advanced copies of their games to reviewers anymore.
This is anti-consumer, they say, because consumers will no longer have the option to get independent opinions on games before the game is released.
And--if I'm reading between the lines here correctly (let me know if I am)--because if the consumer chooses to wait several days after the release to look for reviews, their opportunity to actually purchase the game will disappear forever? Not sure.
-
bethesda makes games?
-
I don't see why reviewers ever got copies in advance in the first place.
-
NE1 play this yet?
-
nop
-
i remember seeing a trailer for that 100 years ago & thinking it looked cool. too bad i dont play video games anymore
-
I was just curious...how many surgeries have you all had under General Anesthesia?
-
only one, but he was a lieutenant at the time
-
ive never had a surge and also i havent seen a doctor in years..... maybe im due for some surge
-
Er, a couple, but can't remember what was general vs local anesthesia.
