I don't know if I said it before but I'm so happy that you and Trots got together.  That's like the best thing to come out of this forum (which made cat planet).

Yeah the Bioshock one is on my TODO list, Trotim pays more attention to that stuff tho. The barrier of laziness gets in the way of VR a lot…

Oh.

Well it was a Parks Canada pass.
Does that involve days out in the wilderness then? Always kinda neat to see considering that forests went extinct in the UK

Anyone else feel like capies have become too mainstream?

What's with VR these days?

Kind of feels like the catalog hasn't changed much at all.
my response to most decent looking VR games ends up being “looks pretty cool”.

Alyx set a standard that nobody wants to invest the money to follow.

Sudden memories of 1000 lines of jQuery code to do stuff that's basically just a few additional directives added to the DOM in Angular, glad I'm past those days

I'm not sure if newer frameworks are necessarily getting higher-level.  There's definitely abstraction, but you're still generally just writing HTML+CSS+JS.  I guess you could say Svelte is a type of DSL due to its compilation step, but it's still basically just JS (or TypeScript).
Both React and Angular significantly change how you interact with the DOM (i.e. you don't), massively changing your approach and thinking as opposed to having a block of HTML, then a block of JS underneath it that manipulates DOM nodes directly. CSS is evolving a bit too, with compilers that make the "cascading" nature of it is a bit more manageable in larger apps.

Reactive programming and reactive stores significantly change the approach of fielding data and event management too, they are pretty much their own DSL.

I definitely ignored the intent of the forums, tbh I never liked any of Maddy's games, I just joined cos Badwaffles talked about the place a bunch so I wanted in on the action

Don't think it was as straightforward as it being a place to be an asshole, it was still generally a community. It was just a community where general edginess and toxicity were easy ways for people to fit in. That's fairly common (unfortunately) in online communities (and school friend groups too tbh). This sort of behaviour breeds itself if it isn't dealt with, which they did do with MMGF. I think that's why MMGF was much better at being on topic than this community was at that point.

also feel bad for behaviour when MMG started and we went over to carry the bad behaviour over, Maddy was just trying to focus on building a positive community around their games :(

I feel like a bunch of us (myself esp.) caught the wave of "be shitty, sarcastic, and aloof and you'll be a cool funny dood" that communities like 4Chan and SomethingAwful had going

also young people doing the standard thing of trying to appear mature and witty, but misunderstanding and it comes out terribly

When Aladdin wished to be a prince and he and the Genie stormed the palace during the "Prince Ali" number, I assume all the servants and animals he came in with (his forty fakirs, his cooks, his bakers, his birds that warble on key) were all fake illusions made with genie-magic, right?

Did nobody at the palace get suspicious when they didn't have to find accommodations for all of those servants and animals?
You assume they were illusions, they could have all been random people, brought from their homes and magically forced to do all of this. This teaches some kind of lesson on how moving through the class system works. Probably.
