I downloaded the Archthrones demo for Dark Souls 3.  It's purdy good.

Also been playing a lot of Risk of Rain 2 lately.  Been slowly leveling up the Eclipse difficulty levels, which basically add a new challenge every time you get a successful win.  I played some more Risk 1 after the remaster came out too, but have basically finished with it now.

Am excited for the Elden Ring DLC.

ive kinda been thinking of picking up a DS/elden ring/from software game for the sole purpose of being able to say old Maddy Games™ are harder. maybe elden ring but not sure if my struggling laptop could really take it also am poor.

mostly sticking with platformers these days bc idk theyre still my jam. played a bit of celeste 64, and 3d metroidvania pseudo-regalia. and uhh maybe am looking into some other indie metroidvanias that came out. i got into running mario 64 tho and that's been eating up a lot of my time :U surely i get back into gaming soon tho  :lemon:

Finding a dev job is very hard and humiliating...

Yeah so far I've heard back from very few places, just a few phone interviews, maybe only like one in-person. They werent too bad, but I also have not gotten deep into the process for any of them at all. That incident with TS sounds terrible, kind of a bullshit reason since TS is just better JS - but idk I don't understand what the software dev hiring process is actually looking for.

Also yeah, I've heard from a lot of my friends that getting a job is more about connections than anything. And I know a lot of ppl in software but am terrible at networking overall + not many places hiring. But hopefully soon maybe.

Best of luck getting your foot in the door, ducko.  It's rough out there right now.  We've gone from companies over-hiring during the pandemic, to panicking at signs of a recession.  It's resulted in lots of people flooding the market and few companies willing to hire right now.  You're a good developer though, and I'm sure that eventually you'll be noticed.

Ty yeah, it feels like overall the market is bad rn, which feels kinda unlucky since in grad school it always seemed good, but nothing to do about it. Also even tho I'm confident in my general programming abilities, I feel like my actual exp not very appealing (my CS research was very niche, my game dev stuff never used unity/godot/etc game engines, i have a personal website but it's all raw html/css/js) So rn I'm  trying to pickup skills that seem marketable (web dev, also learning some data science/ML stuff) and then throw resumes at stuff :U But for now at least I've been enjoying the process of learning new things

nice squeel - im also currently on a web dev learning arc (really hard time finding a dev job so im trying to add to my resume) - basically just trying to learn full-stack web dev as a whole. i used to mess around with angular for frontend but that was a long time ago.

Celeste is pretty good although gameplay is basically just more polished version of the other Maddy games. i think people are also really into the storyline and music.

i still prefer programming at a lower-level rather than using an engine - and the biz with unity kinda makes me feel vindicated in that. but godot looks cool, ive thought about picking up an engine to get skills marketable for an actual job (in the job hunt rn) - and godot seems like it would be cool

secretly i was describing a match statement but wasnt sure of people's familiarity so presented it as a switch statement. yeah a match statement is actually actually what i would do (imo fall-throughs cause bugs way more than they are useful). i did a lot of programming in functional languages during grad school, and match statements are a staple of them.

i didnt know godot made use of them that's cool - especially being able to match dictionaries - i wish typescript could do that.

The is keyword seems really nice, I wish TypeScript had it. Your syntax for indexing tuples is cool!
Yeah implementing ADT/union types in TypeScript is doable, but very bulky, when really they shouldn't be that much more complicated than an advanced enum. The ideal syntax is probably a pattern-matching syntax which would look something like:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
But I'm trying to keep the syntax as minimalist as possible rn so idk.

- What is no on line 3?
It's just another case for the ADT, one that takes no arguments. Basically just a default, altho kinda unnecessary since it has the same meaning as frame:(0) as defined.

- Are you going to implement some kind of checker that runs in the editor? Is that thing separate from a syntax highlighter? I have no clue ^_^
I know what youre talking about, that is different from syntax highlighting, but not sure what it's called either. Rn I almost exclusively work in Sublime Text, which doesn't really do that kind of error highlighting since it's just a text editor at heart (maybe there is some plugin/package that does for some languages tho idk).

I think usually you would need to develop for a specific IDE to get error highlighting. Maybe I would think about it in the distant future, but even getting the compiler to spit out decent error messages is kind of a chore. In general I think error handling is the worst part of making a language lol.
