What do you guys think about making no posting week permanent, shutting down the forums forever, and moving on with our respective lives?

Catching up with my cutey pals doesn't take all that much time out of my life, but does act as a constant reminder of personal growth and often offers interesting perspectives that I wouldn't get otherwise.

But no posting week was very successful...  tough one.

im depressed lately so i dont have the energy rly to run a post fest or post threads that would encourage ppl to post more or anything like that....... or even just to engage with other ppls posts very much........

i think this community is too small & disjointed to survive without ppl actively working to keep it going, like putting effort into making it a fun place (to be) instead of just coming by and posting whenever theyre in the mood, but as the sad ghost from the understory says, "really not feelin up to it right now, sorry"

i kind of use my threads as blogs which probably isnt very conducive to a forum environment but yeah. i guess i dont have much to really talk about with others since i pretty much dont pay attention to just about anything. video games dont rly seem worth paying attention to nor do any tv series these days. but it is cute imo to see other people talk about things theyre into, that makes me happy. but this aside its not like this is any different from how i posted on the old forum. im pretty sure i never participated in any real discussion before, and when i did i was probably like 13 and made a fool of myself. and based on how everyone behaves nowadays (friendly and decent and cute) there hasnt been an opportunity to really discuss any political matters or other issues. maybe its a matter of how much bad shit there is going on constantly that evryones too exhausted to talk about it

anyway what im saying is i think u all are very sweet and nice and everything will be ok

I like you hubs.  Always seemed to get it right from the get-go.

I think a lot of us have probably found creative or social outlets outside of the forum, so maybe it's less needed than it once was.  Though at the same time, it's nice to have a place removed from it all.  Where you just live as a pseudonym and it doesn't really affect anything else.  I like that separation of concerns.

If it's starting to wind down, I guess we'll deal with it as it happens.  But I still get value out of my interactions with you fine folks, and I see no reason to end things prematurely.  If activity drops and it becomes a ghost town for long stretches, well I suppose at that point we can admit we're not getting anything out of it any more and start turning off the lights.

But really, I don't think we're at that point yet.  How many times has the death of the forum been predicted?  Something has kept us coming back for 11+ years now, even after a forum wipe, domain change, removal of all incoming links, being unaffiliated as the "official Matt forum", and whatever other incentives people had for joining.  It's just us, and it seems to work fine.  I too think things will be just fine.

Feel better chu.  <3

even if the forum becomes super dead theres not much benefit to shutting it down i think other than not having to pay for the domain/hosting anymore........the domain only costs me a few bucks per month so i dont really care (and id probably keep the domain even if we shut down the forum since, its cute)

Well, I suppose there is value in closure as well.  It might be a better sendoff to have a proper goodbye than to have people just fade away, possibly feeling guilty for not contributing more.

I'm not so worried about the hosting.  It's just a budget host anyway.

I like popping in and out on occasion cos you are all nice and stuff and I don't really chat with people much online anymore cos I find online chat more intimidating than rl chat now for some reason so it is the only way I would actually stay in touch
